Sweet Exit Music: The 6 Greatest Moments of Shawn Michaels’ Career

Growing up I was a wrestling fan. Not ashamed in admitting that either. I mean, seriously, can you think of anything more manly than a couple of guys in speedos rolling around in a ring together?

However, I haven’t really been much of a fan in probably well over a decade. There’s probably several reasons why I became disinterested in the world of sports entertainment.
One was that I was just getting older, and realized how lame it could be at times. Another would be that childhood favorites were now either retired, dead, or a shell of their former selves. Finally, which could be the same for lots of fans, Vince McMahon gobbling up every other competitor, like WCW and ECW, just made the WWE predictable and boring.
That’s not to say that I would periodically check in, just for a trip down memory lane, or maybe to get a quick laugh.
Needless to say, I was kinda shocked and disappointed to hear that Shawn Michaels, the Heartbreak Kid, The Showstopper, Mr. WrestleMania, has hung up the proverbial boots.

Michaels was one of the few remaining wrestlers that had been around since the 80’s, but rose to prominence in the 90’s, and continued a solid career into the 21st century.
After a back injury in 1997, it seemed like HBK was down for the count, and of course, the obvious pain med addiction to follow didn’t help his chances of a comeback. But, he did make that incredible comeback in 2002. While many of his peers became jokes, like Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, he never missed a beat.
I was never a huge HBK fan, but he was amusing as hell, both in and out of the ring. His antics could usually make a fan crack a smile, while his performances could leave them in awe. Very scarce to find a guy with both of those attributes in the history of professional wrestling.
It took his retirement for me to realize that he is the best sports entertainer that there’s ever been.
